Informatica PC Upgrade from 861 to 91 Installation Steps

1           Overview


This document is for informatica administration team, providing the detailed upgradation steps from 8.6.1 to 9.1 on Linux & Oracle Environment.

2           Download 9.1 Software


Download Software from informatica Corporation and make sure to get proper keys based on environment (Dev/ Prod).

3           Backup Domain


Before Startup of up gradation, please take backup of 8.6.1 domain

4           Backup of Repositories’


Take backup of all repositories in 8.6.1 server

5           Shut Down the Domain


Shutdown services from tom bin folder
./infaservice shutdown

6           Validate  Environment variables before upgrade to 9.1

8           Backup domains.infa

9           Start Installation / Up gradation

create and connect to repositories and Repository Services.

Installer requires operating system Linux version 2.6.16 and later.
Current operating system Linux version 2.6.18.
Current operating system meets minimum requirements.

Select to install or upgrade:

  1.Install or upgrade Informatica.
   Select this option if the machine does not have Informatica services installed
   or if it has Informatica 9.0.x or an earlier version installed.

   To verify whether a machine meets the system requirements for an Informatica installation,
   run the Pre-Installation System Check Tool (i9Pi) before you start the installation process.
   You can find the i9Pi tool in the following directory: <InstallerExtractDirectory>/i9Pi

  2.Install Data Transformation Engine Only.
   Select this option to install only Data Transformation Engine.

  3.Select this option if the machine has Informatica 9.1.0 or an Informatica 9.1.0 hotfix installed.

   Enter the choice(1,2 or 3): 1

 Database: -Requires Oracle, IBM DB2, Microsoft SQL Server or Sybase ASE.
 One of the following product versions must be installed on this machine:
 -PowerCenter 8.1.x
 -PowerCenter 8.5.x
 -PowerCenter 8.6.x
 -Informatica 9.0.1

 Disk Space Requirement: 4 GB
 Memory Requirement (RAM): 4 GB

   Pre-upgrade tasks:
 - Back up the domain configuration repository.
 -For a DB2 database, verify that the tablespace has a page size of 32K.
- Verify that the domain is shut down.

Enter the directory of the Informatica product to upgrade: (default :- /home/infa91/Informatica/9.0.1) :/infa/informatica/pc86/

Enter the directory for Informatica 9.1.0 HotFix 3: (default :- /infa/informatica/pc91/) :/infa/informatica/pc91/

Allow changes to the node host name and port numbers.

Select this option to change the node configuration of Informatica 9.1.0 HotFix 3. This option requires additional configuration tasks after the upgrade.

Restart the domain configuration upgrade
The domain upgrade wizard has detected a previous failed attempt to upgrade the domain.
 The failed attempt may have resulted in an inconsistent domain configuration.
 If you select to restart the domain configuration upgrade,
 the domain upgrade wizard will restart the domain upgrade process and override all previous upgrades to the domain.  It will also override any upgrade contention.Use the following guidelines when you restart the domain configuration upgrade:

 -The problem indicated in the upgrade logs as the cause of the previous upgrade failure must be resolved.
 -Other administrators must not be upgrading any other node in the domain at this time.
 -If errors persist when you restart the domain configuration upgrade, the domain configuration database must be restored from backup.

10       Environment Variables Setup


Update Environment Variables to 9.1 server paths

11       Post Installation Steps


After up gradation all integration services will be down and repository services will give below message.

The repository version(179) is incompatible with version (181)  of the product.
The repository version is 88 but the product uses version 90.
An upgrade may be required.

  •  Select Repository – Go to Actions on top left – Select Repository Contents – Select Upgrade 
  •  It will ask for Admin Credentials – Give Administrator Credentials 
  •  Change Repository to Normal Mode and recycle button

    I have 2 queries
    1. can I retain same directoy path somehow(by renaming the existing PC86 before upgrade and PC91 use PC86 something lie that?)
    2. will the infa_shared folders get copied to newly created folder?

      Please find answers to your queries.

      1. No, you cannot retain same path, since installer will read from existing version of and write to new path.

      2. infa-shared folder and sub folders will be created again.
